Cholesterol Levels for Men

Men are admittedly not the best when it comes to taking care of themselves and eating the right food. Of course this is a very general statement as there are some men out there who are aware of their bodies and the foods they put in their mouth but for the most part, at least stereotypically, men eat what they want. How many times have we seen men sneaking some snack that is no good for them and their wives scolding them? This is because since the beginning of time women have been taking care of men in terms of things that are healthy or unhealthy for them. Men, the hunters are hearty eaters and most of the time do not read labels to see whether or not what they are about to eat is high in saturated fat or not. This may be the reason there are much more incidences of high cholesterol levels for men over 30 than there are for women. Cholesterol levels for men and women differ for several reasons, some of these reasons are because of certain hormones that are gender specific and then some are as a result of lifestyle. Recent studies have shown that cholesterol levels for men over 50 are higher now than ever.

So what can be done about this problem? The solution is a lot simpler than you might imagine. Change your diet and stay away from foods that are high in cholesterol that is the first step. Start moving around and get that blood circulating. It is a lot easier for cholesterol to build up in a body that never moves than it is in an active body. A daily exercise regimen should consist of at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular per day. Three times a week strength training and weights will help to build muscle. The more muscle you have compared to body fat the more calories your body burns. If you begin to drop weight and lower your BMI then it stands to reason you will probably lower your cholesterol too. Try to eat fruits and vegetables as main staples and leave anything that is greasy, deep fried or contains a ton of butter out of your meal plan. While eating this way may be a little bit boring at first, you will eventually start to learn new recipes that will become more appetizing. You can still treat yourself every so often to avoid becoming bored.
